One of ECOHs primary goals
is to advance healthcare quality, by promoting the use
of the quality principles and practices in healthcare
organizations. ECOH is undertaking several Quality Initiatives
in working toward the achievement of this goal.
These initiatives include providing
our members with data from several regional and national
organizations, as well as procuring qualitative data
from members, regarding the quality of care they receive
from providers.
What is a Quality Initiative?
In recent months, national
organizations like the American Hospital Association
(AHA), the Association of American Medical Colleges
(AAMC) and the Federation of American Hospitals (FAH)
have publicly agreed to take a leadership role on one
of the most important issues facing our field: making
information public about the quality of hospital care.
The above organizations believe that hospitals should
be the leaders in voluntarily sharing quality information
with the public. This effort will not only increase
public trust and confidence in hospitals and healthcare
providers, but will also help patients and families
become more active partners in healthcare decision-making.
Quality Initiatives provide some of the tools they need
to make informed decision about their health and the
health of loved ones.
ECOH Believes:
- Quality among healthcare
providers varies greatly.
- The Quality of providers
can be measured.
- Our members can understand
and use quality measures to make decisions about their
healthcare.
- By measuring provider quality, we will drive quality
improvement.
