History

The Employers' Coalition on Health (ECOH) was founded in 1995 by ten Rockford-area employers with a common goal of controlling health care costs through direct contracts with providers, while focusing on quality and appropriate delivery of care. Since then, the Coalition has grown to include more than 160 northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin companies, representing nearly 50,000 covered lives.

As membership continues to grow, so has the diversity of the membership. Today, our member companies include manufacturers, health care providers, municipalities, local government, and school districts. Like our membership, ECOH's provider network has grown to include two distinct networks with providers in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin: ECOH Network, with more than 4,500 primary and specialty care providers and 22 hospitals; and ECOH River Valley, with more than 4,000 primary and specialty care providers and 20 hospitals.

At ECOH, our focus on quality has led to the development of collaborative initiatives with providers in the areas of patient satisfaction, diabetes management, plan design and treatment best practices, and on-site health and wellness education. In addition, the ECOH providers and board of directors meet regularly to understand the unique needs and perspectives of each group, as they relate to the delivery of health care in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
